Summary (English)Created in 1533, this imposing, squarish ilan is a unique collaboration between Elijah Menaḥem Ḥalfan and Abraham Ṣarfati, who acted as its designers, editors, and anthologizers. Constructed from six parchment sheets sewn together like a patchwork quilt, the ilan functions as a map that achieves an unprecedented realization of its cartographic potential. It incorporates a Small Parchment core into a 15,000-word anthology featuring texts from Gikatilla and the Circle of the Special Cherub. A defining innovation is the use of the verso to represent the Sitra Aḥra, aligned with a diminutive tree on the recto to create a three-dimensional cosmological model. The parchment includes precise locative editorial glosses and a disclaimer by Ḥalfan cautioning against corporeality. The verso also features personal testimonies by the creators flanking the demonic tree.
Summary (English)אילן זה, שנוצר בשנת 1533, הוא יצירה מרובעת מרשימה, פרי שיתוף פעולה בין אליהו מנחם חלפן ואברהם צרפתי, ששימשו כמעצבים, עורכים ומלקטי האנתולוגיה שבה. היריעה, המורכבת משש יריעות התפורות זו לזו כמעשה טלאים, מתפקדת כמפה המממשת באופן חסר תקדים את הפוטנציאל הכרטוגרפי של הסוגה. האילן מטמיע בתוכו את ליבת "היריעה הקטנה" בתוך אנתולוגיה בת כ-15,000 מילים, הכוללת טקסטים מאת ג'יקטיליה וחוג "הכרוב המיוחד". מאפיין חדשני מרכזי שיש באילן הוא הניצול של גב היריעה לייצוג הסטרא אחרא, הממוקם בתיאום מדויק מול אילן זעיר בחזית היריעה, ליצירת מודל קוסמולוגי תלת-ממדי. היריעה כוללת הגהות עריכה מיקומיות מדויקות והצהרת הסתייגות מאת חלפן המזהירה מפני הגשמה. גב היריעה כולל גם עדויות אישיות מאת היוצרים, המופיעות לצד האילן הדמוני.
