Content Description

SummaryThe Grupa Ilan, a Great Tree of type KPaZP7, is the earliest known Great Tree to reach us that begins with the first four frames of Knorrโ€™s original Saruqian ilan (Kabbala denudata I, Apparatus IV, figs. 8โ€“12; 12 was not included in the K module). K is followed by PaZP7, the spliced integration of Poppers and Zacuto/แบ’emaแธฅ. This ilan also stands out by virtue of having a rare colophon at the very bottom of the rotulus: โ€œI made this neither out of genius nor pride, for it is not for the desire of the eyes / but only for the glory of the Lord, who dwells in the heavens, to learn within it His deep secrets / and the covenant of Isaac he will fulfill with meโ€ Under the formal colophon is a cursive signature that is difficult to decipher. It appears to read: โ€œIsaac son of the honorable R. Leib of Grupa (Dolnรก Krupรก), here in Schlaining.โ€ Isaac Grupa is an unknown figure.
